Hello and Happy New Year!
Here’s a full length trauma informed yoga practice for you from my archives.
Many of use the new year as a time to return to our embodiment practices, and I hope this will give you the opportunity to treat yourself to a longer practice that may help you feel reconnected to your body—even if it’s been a while since you’ve done any yoga.
Some of the core elements of trauma informed yoga inlaced include 1) sensing our bodies in the present moment and 2) practicing agency through making choices and continually checking in with what feels best to you. I believe that these are core practices that we need now more than ever, in this world that has gamified distraction and continually demands our conformity to ways of being that don’t truly serve our hearts’ true longings.
Becoming attuned to our own inner experience and taking action based on that rather than what we are told we should do is an act of subversion. And yes, it can start right here on your yoga mat.
If you’re looking for something a little shorter, below you’ll find a 10 minute breathing practice. (This practice is also from my way-back-archives, as I am temporarily living someplace very cramped, with no room to roll out a yoga mat and film. I’ve never posted it to Animal Body before, but if you’ve seen this video somewhere else before, I apologize for the duplicatation!)
As always, thanks for joining me in practicing the fulfilling (yet often challenging) art of agency and embodiment. It’s good to have you here.
With care,
Elena
